How Does Office Air Conditioning Work

Air conditioning systems cool an office by removing heat from the indoor air and transferring it outside. Understanding the basic process can help you make better decisions about the system that suits your building and the way your team works.

At the core of most systems is a refrigerant, a fluid that cycles between liquid and gas states to absorb and transfer heat. Is 25 Degrees Too Hot For An Office?

A balmy 25°C might sound idyllic on the beach, but in the office, it can prove too hot to work comfortably. If your office is very busy and has lots of computers which generate heat, the temperature can soon climb even higher.

What Temperature Should An Office Be UK

Naturally, this is somewhat subjective. Opinions of what makes an ideal office temperature vary, but experts widely suggest a temperature of between 21°C and 23°C. Is There A Legal Temperature To Work In An Office?

No, the HSE doesn’t state a legal minimum or maximum temperature that an office should be under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations.

However, they do suggest a temperature guidance of a minimum of 16ºC. If employees do physical work, their environment should be at least 13ºC.

Of course, the realities of working in an office that feels too hot or indeed too cold can look very different. For your employees, excessive heat can create uncomfortable working conditions and can even impact concentration and productivity.
